About the Role
We are looking for a Customs Declarant to support our import and export operations in the Netherlands. In this role, you will prepare and manage customs declarations, ensure compliance with EU customs regulations, and work closely with internal teams and external partners to keep shipments moving smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, check, and submit import and export customs declarations in line with relevant regulations.
- Ensure correct classification of goods (HS codes) and accurate calculation of duties and import VAT.
- Review and manage clearance documentation such as commercial invoices, certificates of origin, and permits.
- Communicate with Dutch Customs, cargo terminals, and clearance agents to ensure efficient shipment processing.
- Handle customs-related issues and support the resolution of clearance delays.
- Provide guidance to internal teams and customers on customs procedures and compliance requirements.
- Support customs compliance activities and assist with internal process checks.
- Work closely with logistics and operations teams to ensure efficient cargo flow.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in customs clearance, import/export operations, or cross-border logistics.
- Hands-on experience preparing import customs declarations; export experience is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of EU customs legislation, HS codes, and import VAT.
- Experience with DMS or similar customs declaration systems is preferred.
- Experience with high-volume import or e-commerce shipments is an advantage.
- Detail-oriented and able to work under time pressure.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
- Fluent in Dutch (mandatory); English is a plus.
